Humanity began in Africa.
Every person is born of a woman*. We depend on nature for our survival. And 95% of reality is unseen.
Yet:
The African continent and its people
are the most abused and exploited on earth.
Women are marginalised under patriarchal systems.
We’ve neglected the Earth, sparking climate crisis.
We cling to our seen, tangible reality and ignore the value and impact unseen phenomena.
Arguably, the vast majority — if not all — of the world’s crises can be traced back to these four core contradictions. Ecofeminist and ecosocialist thinkers have long observed that the domination of women, the exploitation of nature, the colonisation of Indigenous peoples, and the pursuit of profit over balance all arise from the same logic of hierarchy and control.
Addressing these roots opens the door to healing and transformation across our many interconnected struggles.
Decolonial by Design exists to help us move in this direction. Through education and partnership, we seek to contribute to restoring balance across the many threads of our shared struggle — with these four core themes as our springboard and foundation.
